History of the brand
Many other athletes from the West also wore shoes from the same brand. A good twelve years later, the company was officially registered under the management of Rudolf Dassler and the name PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler, and the first PUMA football shoe (the ATOM) was introduced. In the 1950s, the company devoted itself entirely to the development of a football shoe with screw-in studs. With the SUPER ATOM model, Puma launched the world's first shoe with studs. With these shoes, the football team Hannover 96 became German football world champions shortly afterwards. The shoe also became the preferred sports shoe in athletics. In the 1960s, revolutionary technologies from the shoe company caused a scandal, as numerous American athletes broke several existing world records at the Olympic Games in Mexico. For this reason, the shoe was deemed too dangerous, banned and the athletes were stripped of their world records. In the following years, Puma consistently made a name for itself with groundbreaking world records. However, the company also had the courage to break new ground, which it did with fashion designer Jil Sander. Puma was thus the first sports brand to merge sport and fashion.
Influence on the fashion scene
As already mentioned, Puma set a milestone in sports footwear with its invention of screw-in cleated football shoes. With its success in the football industry, Puma continues to set standards and promote new trends in the 21st century. Puma is a professional outfitter in motorsports, continues to cooperate in the fashion sector and is making a name for itself as an outfitter in the golf industry. But above all, Puma is active in football and supplied seven teams at the 2010 World Cup, including the reigning world champions Italy. In addition, Puma is committed to acting in an environmentally and socially responsible manner as part of its SAFE sustainability concept in order to contribute to peace.
Top models of the brand and their special features
Puma Suede Classic Sneaker: The classic lace-up shoes with synthetic soles by Puma convey comfort through the suede upper material, which is suitable for everyday wear as well as active leisure activities. The shoe also boasts excellent cushioning and a particularly good roll-off behaviour. When running, the shoe is therefore almost silent and still offers secure support on all surfaces and in all weather conditions. The design is very chic, but at the same time the shoe still feels light. Puma Faas: The shoe is a special running shoe that is based on the speed of the Jamaicans. For this, Puma analysed the running of the Jamaicans and found out that instead of using anti-gravity running belts and brake parachutes, they just run on grass and sprint uphill. These facts led Puma to the motto that less is more and replaced the traditional reinforcements of running shoes with a lightweight system called BioRide. This new technology is based on 3 components (rocker, flex and groove) that work together to support the natural running rhythm. This makes the Faas running shoes faster. For this reason, the sports shoes are particularly suitable for intensive training and competitions. Furthermore, the running shoe impresses with the typical rubber sole and the stylish Puma design.
Prominent Puma wearers
The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev is the new face of Puma's "Project Pink" campaign against breast cancer. In a video made especially for the campaign, Nina Dobrev plays football with young female football players. Puma will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the Puma Project Pink collection to a breast cancer organisation, which fans can choose via online voting.
