The cowhide ChromeFree leather is smooth and lightweight. It comes from farms in southern Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul) and undergoes an innovative tanning process that uses no chrome, heavy metals, or dangerous acids. Simplifying the tanning process reduces the use of chemicals and energy. Water consumption is reduced by about 40% and salt consumption by 80%. The water used in tanning is recyclable.
