Background

Shawn Stussy is the creative mind behind the clothing brand Stüssy, which he launched in Laguna Beach in the USA in 1980. The idea for the brand's own logo came about when the enthusiastic surfer Shawn Stussy wrote his last name on one of his surfboards. Due to the high demand, he then sold shirts, trousers and caps with his logo in the area around Laguna Beach. In 1988, the brand expanded to Europe, where Stussy opened numerous successful boutiques together with Sinatra Jr. 16 years after the company was founded in Laguna Beach, Shawn Stussy stepped down as president and sold his shares to his business partner Sinatra, whose family still owns the company today.
